Company Name: SACHLO (Saudi Chlorine)
Position Title: Assistant to COO – Operations & Projects
Location: Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Industry: Chlor-Alkali & Calcium Chloride Manufacturing
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site

1. Company Introduction

SACHLO (Saudi Chlorine) has been a prominent name in the Middle Eastern chemical manufacturing sector for over a decade. Headquartered in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the company has built its reputation on delivering reliable, high-quality products to a wide range of industries including water treatment, oil & gas, textiles, food processing, and general manufacturing.

Specializing in Chlor-Alkali and Calcium Chloride products, SACHLO operates some of the most advanced production facilities in the region. The company is recognized for adhering to international standards, maintaining environmental and safety protocols, and consistently innovating to meet market needs.

Over the past few years, SACHLO has expanded significantly, both in capacity and scope. From sodium hypochlorite to hydrochloric acid and from industrial-grade chlorine to calcium chloride flakes, their product lines support essential operations in critical sectors. This strategic expansion has made it imperative to strengthen leadership at the operational level.

To support this next phase of growth, SACHLO is hiring an “Assistant to COO (Operations & Projects)” who will act as a key operational link between the Chief Operating Officer and plant/project teams. This role is ideal for an experienced chemical engineer who understands the pulse of the plant floor and can translate engineering performance into actionable strategic insights.

This opportunity offers a chance to be involved directly in executive decision-making, technical problem-solving, and project management, all within a structured and growing organization that values leadership, discipline, and technical rigor.

2. Job Description

The position of Assistant to COO (Operations & Projects) is a hybrid leadership and technical role that combines engineering expertise with project coordination and strategic planning. The selected candidate will act as a key support to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), working across operations, production, and project management verticals.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Daily Plant Operations
The Assistant will support day-to-day operations of the Chlor-Alkali and Calcium Chloride plants. This includes monitoring plant KPIs, tracking equipment reliability, and coordinating with operations teams to ensure optimal process conditions.
  • Project Execution
The role involves closely tracking ongoing expansion projects, upgrades, and maintenance activities. The Assistant to the COO will work with project engineers, contractors, and suppliers to ensure milestones are achieved on schedule and within budget.
  • Performance Monitoring
The candidate will develop and maintain dashboards for operational performance, including production throughput, energy consumption, downtime analysis, and quality deviations. This data will be used for continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Process Optimization
The role requires frequent process reviews to identify areas for energy savings, yield improvements, and equipment upgrades. Recommendations must be backed by technical analysis and risk assessments.
  • Reporting and Documentation
Weekly and monthly operational summaries must be prepared for executive review. These include production figures, safety incidents, maintenance logs, and status updates on all plant improvement projects.
  • Team Coordination
The Assistant will help coordinate cross-functional teams—production, maintenance, engineering, and safety—to align daily tasks with long-term operational goals. This coordination is key to reducing bottlenecks and improving plant performance.
  • Safety and Regulatory Compliance
The role also includes ensuring all activities are carried out in compliance with Saudi Arabian safety regulations, quality standards, and environmental requirements. This includes managing audit responses and ensuring documentation is updated as per ISO and API standards.
  • Technical Support to COO
As a direct report to the COO, the Assistant will support executive-level decision-making. This involves preparing feasibility studies, managing vendor comparisons, evaluating cost-benefit analysis of new initiatives, and participating in board-level presentations.

Desired Impact:

The selected candidate is expected to contribute to plant stability, improved process performance, and faster project turnarounds. They should demonstrate leadership in addressing operational challenges, proactively suggesting upgrades, and ensuring all key deliverables are executed with precision.

Educational Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university is mandatory.
  • A Master’s degree or certifications in Project Management (PMP), Safety (NEBOSH), or Process Control will be considered an added advantage.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 5–7 years of industrial experience in a chemical process industry.
  • Demonstrated work experience in plant operations, preferably in Chlor-Alkali or Calcium Chloride plants.
  • Prior involvement in brownfield/greenfield project execution, including plant upgrades or commissioning.
  • Familiarity with brine treatment, membrane electrolysis, chlorination systems, evaporation, flaking, and granulation processes.
  • Experience in ISO, ASTM, API, ASME-compliant environments.

Technical Expertise:

  • Hands-on familiarity with AutoCAD, MS Project, and production reporting tools.
  • Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting operational problems and identifying improvement areas.
  • Knowledge of process instrumentation, utility systems, and preventive maintenance programs.

Communication and Leadership Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to prepare formal reports, project proposals, and executive summaries.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with cross-functional teams and external vendors.
  • Capable of handling high-pressure situations and multitasking across departments.
