Currently, National Development Consultants Pvt. Ltd. is looking to expand its design team by hiring a skilled Design Engineer – Civil for one of their infrastructure projects. This is a remarkable opportunity for qualified professionals who are passionate about hydraulic design and structural engineering and want to be part of a team working on strategic, nation-building projects.
Job Description
The role of Design Engineer – Civil at National Development Consultants Pvt. Ltd. involves high-level technical responsibilities focused on the design and detailing of hydropower and other water-related infrastructure. The selected candidate will join the infrastructure design team and work on complex projects involving hydraulic structures, dams, tunnels, and intake/outlet systems.
As part of the design team, the engineer will be expected to deliver designs that comply with national and international codes while aligning with client requirements and environmental constraints. This includes preparing and reviewing engineering drawings, conducting technical calculations, generating structural models, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure the integrity and functionality of the final product.
One of the core tasks includes the ability to design typical hydropower components such as dams, power intakes, tunnels, outlet structures, and ancillary works. A deep understanding of structural hydraulics is essential, along with experience in stability analysis, hydraulic behavior, and structural detailing.
The selected engineer will work closely with CAD operators and junior engineers, supervising their work and guiding them in the preparation of detailed engineering drawings. This also includes reviewing and verifying design layouts to ensure consistency, safety, and compliance with client specifications.
In addition to design responsibilities, the candidate will contribute to report writing, including the preparation of feasibility studies, design review reports, tender documents, and technical documentation for client submission. This requires strong technical writing skills and the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly.
Coordination with site teams may occasionally be required, particularly for data collection, design validation, and addressing field-based queries. Therefore, having a proactive attitude and effective communication skills is crucial for success in this role.
Working at NDC also means adhering to high standards of quality control and documentation. The engineer will be required to maintain organized records of calculations, design versions, and communication logs. Involvement in internal design audits, peer reviews, and client presentations is expected from the selected professional.
Lastly, the company is looking for a candidate who is not just technically proficient but also shows initiative and is open to learning. Engineering at NDC is a collaborative effort that thrives on feedback, refinement, and shared ownership of project success. If you’re someone who enjoys working on impactful infrastructure and is eager to grow in a high-performance team, this role offers an ideal platform.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the position of Design Engineer – Civil, applicants must meet the following eligibility and technical criteria:
- Educational Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a Bachelor’s degree (BSc) in Civil Engineering, preferably with a Master’s degree (MSc) in Civil / Structures or a closely related field from a university recognized by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan. - Technical Expertise in Structural Hydraulics:
A deep and demonstrable understanding of dams, tunnels, intake/outlet structures, and other hydropower components is required. The candidate should be familiar with various hydraulic design parameters, loadings, and behaviors of reinforced concrete and steel structures under operational and environmental forces. - Hydropower Design Knowledge:
Candidates should possess the ability to design hydropower components such as power intakes, dams, tunnels, outlet structures, and auxiliary systems. Understanding the behavior of water under pressure, sediment control, flow regulation, and energy dissipation techniques will be essential. - Design Software Proficiency:
Command over AutoCAD and structural design software is critical. The candidate must be capable of supervising CAD operators, reviewing detailed drawings, and making iterative modifications as required. Knowledge of structural modeling software such as ETABS, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, or Civil 3D is a definite advantage. - Report Writing and Documentation Skills:
The selected individual must be able to prepare technical design reports, calculation notes, and drawing albums with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and compliance with both project-specific and regulatory requirements. - Supervisory and Coordination Skills:
The engineer should be able to supervise junior engineers and CAD teams, review design outputs, and ensure timely delivery of assigned tasks. Previous experience in a supervisory or mentoring capacity will be considered favorably. - Detail-Oriented and Quality-Focused:
A strong eye for detail is essential to ensure design accuracy and technical soundness. Candidates are expected to self-review their work, incorporate feedback, and maintain design consistency across project deliverables. - Understanding of Local and International Codes:
Knowledge of Pakistan’s design standards, as well as exposure to international design codes such as ACI, BS, Eurocodes, or USACE, is highly desirable. - Communication Skills:
The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders. This includes the ability to present technical information clearly in both written and verbal formats. - Experience Requirements:
While the advertisement does not specify minimum experience, preference will be given to professionals with a minimum of 3–5 years of relevant design experience in infrastructure or hydropower projects. - Work Ethic and Professionalism:
