Job Description – Process Design Engineer at Elite Engineering

The role of Process Design Engineer at Elite Engineering is a senior-level technical position based at the Head Office in Lahore. The position plays a central role in ensuring that all process-related aspects of the company’s engineering projects are thoroughly designed, documented, and integrated with other disciplines.

The selected candidate will be responsible for developing comprehensive Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for a variety of systems, especially those related to oil storage and handling. This includes the creation of design documents that serve as the foundation for civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams.

A key part of the job is simulation modeling using software tools like Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus. The candidate will need to conduct hydraulic calculations, assess pump performance, and evaluate pipeline behavior under different operating scenarios. This helps determine the optimal design for transfer lines, pumping systems, and vapor recovery units.

The role also involves the specification and sizing of process equipment. Engineers must evaluate equipment like pumps, valves, loading arms, separators, flow meters, and heat exchangers, based on process requirements and safety considerations. An understanding of storage tank sizing, including throughput analysis, turnover rates, and fluid properties, is crucial.

In terms of documentation, the engineer must prepare technical reports, design basis documents, datasheets, and equipment specifications. These documents serve both as project guides and official records for clients, consultants, and regulatory authorities.

The position demands active participation in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) and SIL (Safety Integrity Level) reviews. These sessions are part of Elite Engineering’s commitment to safety and compliance. The engineer will also be required to evaluate firefighting systems, spill containment strategies, and environmental controls.

The role is highly collaborative. The Process Design Engineer will work closely with engineers from other disciplines to ensure that the project design is fully aligned across functions. Interaction with vendors, contractors, and clients is also frequent, especially during the procurement and construction phases.

Another major responsibility includes on-site support during construction, commissioning, and start-up phases. Engineers may need to resolve issues, validate system designs in real-time, and provide technical clarifications to field teams.

Lastly, familiarity with industry codes and standards is non-negotiable. Engineers must demonstrate fluency in API (American Petroleum Institute) codes, ASME, ISO, NFPA, and other relevant standards.

This is a challenging yet highly rewarding position for professionals passionate about process engineering, safety, and project delivery in an industrial context.

Eligibility Criteria – Who Should Apply?

The role of Process Design Engineer at Elite Engineering is not an entry-level position. The company is looking for experienced professionals who bring not just technical skills but also maturity in handling complex, multidisciplinary projects.

Educational Background:

Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Petroleum Engineering from a recognized university. Equivalent engineering degrees with strong process design content may also be considered, subject to relevant experience.

Advanced qualifications such as a Master’s degree or specialized certifications in Process Engineering, Process Safety, or Simulation Modeling will be considered a plus but are not mandatory.

Professional Experience:

Candidates must have 5 to 10 years of hands-on experience in process engineering, preferably in an EPC or oil & gas environment. This experience should include:

  • Designing and reviewing PFDs and P&IDs
  • Conducting hydraulic calculations
  • Performing process simulations using tools like Aspen HYSYS or Aspen Plus
  • Working on projects involving storage tanks, pipelines, and vapor recovery systems
  • Preparing design documentation and participating in technical reviews

Experience with HAZOP, SIL, and QRA (Quantitative Risk Assessment) is highly valued.

Technical Skills:

Applicants should demonstrate a command over process simulation software like Aspen HYSYS, Aspen Plus, or similar tools. Proficiency in AutoCAD, Navisworks, and 3D modeling tools is a plus.

Familiarity with equipment design standards, datasheet development, and interaction with procurement teams is expected. Engineers should have experience with API standards (650, 620, etc.), ASME Section VIII, NFPA, and OSHA codes relevant to industrial systems.

Communication & Collaboration:

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential. The engineer will need to coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, explain technical concepts to non-engineers, and interface with clients and regulatory bodies.

The ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines is vital. Elite Engineering operates in a fast-paced project environment, and engineers must be proactive problem-solvers who take ownership of their work.

Personal Traits:

  • Attention to detail
  • Accountability
  • Safety-first mindset
  • Willingness to travel or work on-site during project execution phases
  • Team spirit and collaboration

Preferred:

  • Experience in process design for oil depots, petrochemical plants, or terminals
  • Participation in turnkey EPC projects
  • Knowledge of firefighting systems, spill control, and environmental risk assessments
