Job Description
The Application Engineer – Mechanical role at RUD Chains is focused on designing and delivering mechanical solutions that meet client requirements while maintaining strict adherence to engineering standards. The engineer will work directly with clients across industries such as defence, mining, infrastructure, and energy, ensuring technical proposals are both practical and commercially aligned.
Key responsibilities include developing conceptual designs, preparing engineering proposals, and presenting technical solutions to clients. This requires not only strong technical expertise but also the ability to translate engineering requirements into clear and persuasive client communications. The role emphasizes accuracy, clarity, and credibility in all deliverables.
Engineers will create CAD models, perform calculations, and prepare FEA (Finite Element Analysis) reports using Solid Edge and Femap software. They will also be responsible for managing projects through the full cycle — from initial client discussions and conceptual pitches to delivery, compliance, and project closeout. This includes ensuring every output aligns with engineering quality systems.
Additional duties involve supporting prototype testing, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Beyond technical responsibilities, the role requires strong collaboration with internal teams, as well as the ability to influence outcomes during client interactions. For candidates who take pride in accuracy, problem-solving, and precision, this role provides the opportunity to see designs evolve into real-world solutions with long-term impact.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates for the Application Engineer – Mechanical position must hold a degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent qualification. A minimum of five years of professional experience in mechanical engineering or metal fabrication is required, with proven expertise in CAD design and engineering calculations.
Proficiency in Solid Edge and Femap software is essential, as much of the design and reporting work will rely on these platforms. Beyond technical design, applicants should demonstrate the ability to prepare detailed engineering documentation, including calculations, compliance reports, and technical proposals. Strong technical writing and communication skills are critical for engaging with clients and ensuring clarity in deliverables.
The ideal candidate will also have experience in selling technical solutions, meaning they can confidently engage clients, build strong relationships, and convert opportunities into tangible outcomes. This requires both interpersonal skills and the ability to align technical designs with client business objectives.
A logical and detail-oriented mindset is essential. Candidates should show commitment to precision, structured problem-solving, and compliance with engineering standards. Previous experience in industries such as defence, mining, or infrastructure will be an advantage.
Finally, applicants should value teamwork and be comfortable working in a culture that emphasizes structured systems, technical credibility, and continuous improvement. This is a full-time role based in Brisbane and is best suited to engineers who want to combine technical expertise with commercial engagement in a role that has both immediate and long-term impact.
