The successful candidate will play a key role in the automation of manufacturing and palm oil processing plants. With a strong technical background in Siemens TIA Portal, WinCC, and related industrial control systems, the engineer will contribute to ongoing digital transformation efforts.
This role is based in Jakarta and offers a chance to work with industry experts, handle large-scale automation systems, and be involved in design, programming, and commissioning projects for real-world applications.
2. Job Description
The Automation Engineer will be part of Siemens Indonesia’s automation and controls division. This position is focused on designing, implementing, and supporting automation systems primarily in the palm oil and broader manufacturing sectors.
As an Automation Engineer, your work will begin with reviewing client requirements and collaborating with the internal engineering team to develop customized automation solutions. You will be responsible for programming PLCs using Siemens TIA Portal, configuring HMI/SCADA interfaces via WinCC, and managing commissioning activities at client sites.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing automation system architecture tailored to client processes and industry standards.
- Programming PLCs (particularly Siemens S7-1200 and S7-1500 series) using TIA Portal.
- Developing HMI and SCADA interfaces with Siemens WinCC.
- Integrating automation components, sensors, and communication networks using Profinet, Modbus, or OPC UA.
- Participating in FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing) and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing) to validate system performance.
- Collaborating with plant operators and engineers to ensure systems meet operational goals and optimize production flow.
- Troubleshooting system faults, both in software logic and hardware components, during installation and operational support phases.
- Ensuring projects adhere to international safety and automation standards, such as SIL levels and ISO 13849.
- Maintaining up-to-date technical documentation, including electrical schematics, I/O lists, and loop diagrams.
- Providing technical guidance to junior team members or third-party contractors involved in installation and commissioning.
- Participating in continuous improvement reviews and identifying opportunities to enhance automation performance and energy efficiency.
This role involves occasional travel to client locations for on-site support and requires adaptability in managing field-related challenges. You will be expected to engage actively in cross-functional project discussions and follow through with practical solutions that align with Siemens’ standards of quality and safety.
3. Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the position of Automation Engineer at Siemens Indonesia, candidates must meet the following qualifications and experience criteria:
Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Physics Engineering, or a closely related field is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, particularly with Siemens technologies (TIA Portal, WinCC).
- Proven track record working in manufacturing environments or palm oil processing plants is considered a significant advantage.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in programming Siemens S7-1200 and S7-1500 PLCs.
- Strong understanding of HMI and SCADA system design using WinCC.
- Experience working with industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Modbus, and OPC UA.
- Familiarity with instrumentation systems, signal integration, and control loop tuning.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, P&IDs, and process flow diagrams.
- Strong command over troubleshooting techniques in both hardware and software environments.
Bonus Qualifications:
- Experience with PCS 7, Step 7, and SCL programming.
- Understanding and application of safety PLCs, SIL (Safety Integrity Level), and ISO 13849 compliance standards.
Soft Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment with process engineers, plant operators, and field teams.
- High level of attention to detail, documentation discipline, and proactive problem-solving.
Other Requirements:
- Must be willing to work on-site in Jakarta, with occasional travel to client locations.
- Must be able to work independently and manage project deadlines under limited supervision.
