Job Description

The Deputy Chief Engineer – Electrical Department will play a vital leadership role in ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of all electrical systems within Alnoor Sugar Mills. The position involves planning, supervising, and optimizing electrical maintenance, operations, and project activities across the plant.

This is a senior engineering role that requires technical expertise in high-tension and low-tension systems, motor control, switchgear management, and electrical instrumentation, as well as strong leadership and problem-solving skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of all electrical infrastructure, including power generation units, transformers, switchgears, motors, drives, panels, and lighting systems.
  • Supervising preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability and minimum downtime.
  • Ensuring calibration and upkeep of instrumentation and control systems, including PLCs, SCADA, and DCS networks.
  • Assisting in the design, installation, and troubleshooting of electrical systems and automation solutions for process improvement.
  • Planning and managing electrical projects such as new installations, capacity expansion, or rehabilitation of outdated equipment.
  • Preparing technical specifications, electrical drawings, and cost estimates, and managing the tendering process for electrical works.
  • Monitoring and optimizing electrical loads, power factor, harmonics, and energy efficiency measures.
  • Implementing energy conservation initiatives, such as motor optimization and efficient lighting systems, to reduce power losses.
  • Ensuring compliance with all electrical safety standards, statutory regulations, and company procedures, including lock-out/tag-out systems, earthing protocols, and insulation testing.
  • Conducting regular electrical safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to maintain operational integrity.
  • Leading fault diagnosis, root-cause analysis, and corrective action for electrical breakdowns or failures.
  • Coordinating closely with production, mechanical, and automation teams to ensure consistent plant performance.
  • Keeping detailed documentation of electrical maintenance, system performance, and energy reports for management review.
  • Training and mentoring electrical staff and technicians to maintain high technical and safety standards.

This role requires a technically proficient and hands-on engineer who can balance daily operational demands with long-term system improvement goals. The Deputy Chief Engineer will be directly responsible for ensuring uninterrupted power supply, maintaining system reliability, and implementing modern maintenance strategies aligned with industrial best practices.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the position of Deputy Chief Engineer – Electrical Department, candidates must possess the following qualifications, experience, and professional attributes:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
  • Advanced certifications in Instrumentation, Power Systems, or Industrial Automation are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in heavy industrial, power, or process industries such as sugar, fertilizer, or cement plants.
  • At least 3–5 years of experience specifically related to sugar mill electrical systems or similar process plants with complex instrumentation and control systems.

Technical Competencies:

  • Deep knowledge of HT and LT power systems, transformers, switchgear, control panels, motor and drive systems, and power distribution networks.
  • Strong understanding of automation and control systems (PLCs, SCADA, and DCS).
  • Skilled in interpreting electrical schematics, layout drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with energy management and power quality improvement techniques.
  • Competence in equipment calibration, instrumentation maintenance, and electrical fault analysis.

Regulatory Knowledge:

  • Thorough understanding of electrical codes, safety regulations, and engineering standards applicable in Pakistan.
  • Familiarity with ISO, OSHA, and NEPRA safety guidelines.
  • Ability to ensure full compliance with company policies and statutory electrical standards.
