Job Description
The Electrical & Controls Engineer II at Johns Manville will be responsible for planning, executing, and supporting electrical and control system projects within the Richmond, Indiana, facility. This includes troubleshooting operational issues, leading improvement initiatives, and assisting in capital projects.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform electrical and control system engineering for plant operations, including power distribution, PLC, HMI, DCS, and SCADA systems.
- Prepare and review technical electrical specifications for equipment, processes, and projects.
- Troubleshoot and correct operational issues, providing root cause analysis to prevent recurrence.
- Provide on-call support for plant electrical and control issues.
- Assist in reviewing and implementing corporate standards and specifications for electrical safety and plant operations.
- Track and prioritize issues, coordinating with cross-functional teams.
- Manage external engineering resources and consultants when required.
- Mentor junior engineers and electricians, providing technical guidance and training.
- Lead projects from start to finish, including creating scope documents, engineering designs, cost estimates, schedules, justifications, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E requirements, and plant safety protocols.
- Execute plant improvement projects to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, suggesting engineering solutions to enhance plant processes.
- Support manufacturing operations with electrical and control expertise, ensuring uptime and operational reliability.
- Communicate project status, problems, and changes effectively to management and stakeholders.
- Travel (up to 10%) to support project execution or site-specific requirements.
This role requires strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills. Engineers must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with budgets ranging from $50,000 to $200,000, while ensuring quality and safety standards are maintained.
Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Electrical & Controls Engineer II position, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in control systems engineering within continuous or discrete manufacturing environments.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMI applications, including programming and network communications.
- Knowledge of DCS and SCADA systems.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with 480V and 4160V power distribution systems is preferred.
- Experience with Honeywell DCS systems and AutoCAD for electrical design is desirable.
- Project Management: Proven ability to manage projects, budgets, and timelines efficiently.
- Electrical Safety Knowledge: Understanding of NFPA 70E standards for workplace electrical safety, including arc flash and shock hazard mitigation.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities. Initiative and drive to identify and implement improvements.
- Other Requirements: Ability to travel up to 10% and work collaboratively with internal and external engineering resources.
