Job Description
The Electrical Engineer will play a central role in supporting the design, operation, and maintenance of electrical systems for a major power and gasification facility in Saudi Arabia. The selected candidate will contribute to ensuring the safe, efficient, and reliable supply of electricity, steam, and hydrogen to a major refinery complex.
This position is ideal for seasoned professionals with a strong technical foundation in medium-voltage (MV) and low-voltage (LV) systems, protection relays, grounding design, and electrical studies. The role requires deep familiarity with power distribution systems and the ability to apply international engineering standards across a dynamic industrial environment.
As part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for system reliability, project implementation, and compliance with safety and environmental standards. The role involves both office-based design work and field supervision to ensure the successful commissioning, operation, and troubleshooting of power systems.
The candidate must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously — including performing electrical load studies, preparing technical documentation, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, and ensuring adherence to applicable codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and validate electrical designs for medium- and low-voltage power systems used in the refinery’s utility infrastructure.
- Conduct system studies such as load flow, short circuit, motor starting, arc flash, and relay coordination to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Work with protection relays from leading manufacturers such as SEL, Siemens, Beckwith, and Alstom to develop protection schemes and settings.
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems and ensure compliance with international standards and local codes.
- Perform Front-End Loading (FEL) and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) activities for new projects and system upgrades.
- Participate in detailed engineering and design review meetings to ensure alignment between design intent and field implementation.
- Conduct grounding and lightning protection studies, ensuring compliance with API, NEC/IEC, ISA, NFPA, and Saudi Aramco standards.
- Support SIL (Safety Integrity Level), SIS (Safety Instrumented Systems), and SIF (Safety Instrumented Functions) assessments for critical systems.
- Work collaboratively with mechanical, control, and instrumentation teams to integrate electrical systems with process and automation requirements.
- Assist in troubleshooting electrical faults, analyzing root causes, and implementing corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Maintain documentation of electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, equipment datasheets, and maintenance records.
- Ensure compliance with SCADA system integration and maintain interfaces between electrical equipment and control systems.
- Develop and maintain maintenance plans for electrical assets, ensuring equipment uptime and lifecycle management.
- Provide technical support for vendor selection, procurement, and equipment inspection processes.
- Participate in risk assessments, hazard identification, and mitigation planning for electrical systems.
- Implement energy efficiency measures and contribute to sustainability initiatives across plant operations.
This position demands strong technical acumen, practical field experience, and a commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will have a blend of design, operational, and commissioning experience within large-scale industrial or power plant settings.
Eligibility Criteria
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university or recognized institution.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the power generation, industrial utilities, or oil & gas sectors.
- Extensive exposure to MV/LV electrical systems and protection relay coordination.
- Prior experience in power plants, gasification facilities, or refinery utilities is highly preferred.
- Strong background in the design and implementation of protection relays from leading manufacturers such as SEL, Siemens, Beckwith, and Alstom.
- Experience in FEL/FEED engineering, including conceptual and detailed design stages.
- Deep understanding of electrical studies such as grounding, fault analysis, and relay coordination.
- Knowledge of SIL, SIS, and SIF systems applied to industrial safety.
- Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, and automation interfaces for monitoring and control systems.
- Working knowledge of international codes and standards, including API, ISA, NEC/IEC, NFPA, and Saudi Aramco standards.
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong analytical and diagnostic skills for electrical systems and fault management.
- Excellent understanding of electrical protection schemes and system reliability.
- Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software tools.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and interdisciplinary environment.
- Commitment to safety, quality, and compliance with all project procedures.
- Ability to lead small teams or provide mentorship to junior engineers when required.
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently under minimal supervision.
