SAECO and Safami are not just engineering firms—they are institutions where young graduates can begin careers that matter. They invest in fresh graduates, provide structured career pathways, and expose them to large-scale projects and multidisciplinary teams. Whether in design, maintenance, or construction, entry-level engineers are given responsibilities early on and are mentored by industry veterans.
Now, with expanding operations and new contracts being awarded across the Eastern Province, the group is inviting new talent to join their ranks. A new opening for the position of Engineer I – Mechanical has been announced for the Al-Jubail region, offering recent graduates the chance to contribute to high-impact engineering work and gain meaningful, on-site experience.
This is a strong career opportunity for mechanical engineers looking to launch their professional journey in Saudi Arabia’s industrial heartland. Let’s explore the role in more detail.
Job Description
The position of Engineer I – Mechanical is part of the field and project engineering team in Al-Jubail, one of Saudi Arabia’s most significant industrial hubs. This is an entry-level position designed to support recent graduates in transitioning into the real-world environment of engineering projects.
As a Mechanical Engineer I, you’ll work under the supervision of senior engineers and project managers on a variety of mechanical systems, including pipelines, industrial HVAC, pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, and support structures. The role is hands-on, field-based, and offers a practical learning environment for engineers with 0 to 2 years of experience.
You will be exposed to every aspect of mechanical engineering execution—starting from design reviews, procurement follow-ups, material inspections, construction coordination, quality checks, and final handover.
Key Responsibilities
1. Technical Documentation and Review
- Assist in the preparation and review of project documentation such as technical specifications, data sheets, material take-offs, and equipment layouts.
- Review vendor drawings and ensure alignment with project requirements and codes.
- Support the preparation of method statements, installation procedures, and mechanical checklists.
2. Site Supervision and Execution Support
- Supervise mechanical installation activities on-site including piping, ducting, HVAC, and static equipment installations.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, technicians, and construction teams to ensure the mechanical scope is completed safely and correctly.
- Monitor compliance with project safety procedures and mechanical standards.
3. Testing and Quality Assurance
- Witness and participate in equipment testing such as hydrostatic tests, pressure tests, alignment checks, and functional tests.
- Ensure all materials and installations conform to project quality standards and industry regulations.
- Report and document any non-conformance items (NCRs) and assist with corrective actions.
4. Coordination and Reporting
- Support daily progress reporting and coordination between mechanical teams and other disciplines like electrical, civil, and instrumentation.
- Attend project meetings and contribute to technical discussions.
- Prepare technical queries (TQs) for design clarification and support resolution with the design team.
5. Learning and Development
- Participate in on-the-job training and structured technical mentoring provided by senior staff.
- Engage in internal safety, quality, and engineering seminars.
- Explore opportunities for future certifications in welding, piping design, or rotating equipment.
This is a full-time position where the candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team working on operational and capital projects for top-tier industrial clients in the region.
Eligibility Criteria
The Engineer I – Mechanical role is an excellent starting point for engineers who are looking to gain experience in construction, plant operations, maintenance, and mechanical systems under expert supervision. While the job is open to recent graduates, there are a few minimum requirements and preferences that applicants should consider.
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university or institution.
- The degree should be recognized by the Saudi Council of Engineers or be eligible for recognition.
- Additional certifications in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, HVAC design, or mechanical QA/QC will be a plus but are not mandatory.
Work Experience
- Candidates with 0 to 2 years of experience are eligible to apply.
- Fresh graduates who have completed relevant internships, senior projects, or capstone programs in mechanical design, maintenance, or installation will be prioritized.
- Prior exposure to industrial sites (even during training) will be considered advantageous.
Technical Competencies
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems including pumps, valves, piping, compressors, HVAC, and structural supports.
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings such as P&IDs, piping layouts, isometrics, and equipment assembly diagrams.
- Familiarity with software tools like MS Excel, AutoCAD, and MS Project.
- Knowledge of international mechanical codes such as ASME, API, or ISO standards is desirable but not mandatory.
Communication and Soft Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication in English is essential; Arabic is a plus.
- Ability to work in a team, follow instructions, and report clearly to supervisors.
- Positive attitude towards learning, safety, and cross-cultural collaboration.
- Readiness to work in outdoor or field environments where physical presence is required for equipment inspections and site walks.
Location-Specific Requirements
- Candidate must be willing to relocate to Al-Jubail.
- Preference will be given to applicants who already reside in Saudi Arabia with transferable Iqama or valid documentation.
- Ability to join on short notice or immediately is an added advantage.
This role is ideal for engineers who want to work on real-life systems rather than just simulations. The practical nature of the work, mentorship by experienced professionals, and diversity of projects make it a solid foundation for long-term growth in industrial engineering.
