As part of their expansion and technical excellence strategy, the company is currently seeking a competent Estimation Engineer to join their technical division. This role requires coordination across multiple internal departments and external stakeholders. The right candidate will be responsible for preparing realistic and competitive cost estimates based on engineering drawings and specifications.


2. Job Description – Estimation Engineer

The Estimation Engineer will be responsible for evaluating technical drawings, RFQs, and specifications to develop accurate and competitive cost estimates for MV and LV Switchgear systems, as well as other electrical components such as Cable Trays and Bus Tie Ducts. This role involves in-depth project analysis, vendor coordination, proposal drafting, and pricing strategies tailored to customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze RFQs, drawings, BOQs, and client-provided specifications for various switchgear projects.
  • Estimate costs related to materials, labor, subcontracted services, and overheads in accordance with project scope.
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers to gather updated price quotes and technical clarifications.
  • Develop cost-effective solutions that meet customer requirements without compromising on product standards.
  • Coordinate with the internal Sales, Procurement, and Technical departments to ensure estimates reflect actual capabilities and timelines.
  • Assist in the creation of professional bid documents and technical proposals for clients.
  • Monitor ongoing cost trends in the switchgear industry to update internal pricing databases.
  • Use historical project data to inform future cost projections and reduce bid time.
  • Participate in tender submissions and pre-bid meetings when required.
  • Assist the Procurement and Project Management teams in post-bid clarification and execution alignment.
  • Review client feedback on submitted proposals and incorporate lessons into future submissions.
  • Maintain and update an internal database of estimation templates, rate sheets, and supplier directories.
  • Stay informed on engineering standards, industry norms, and regulatory changes relevant to electrical system design and costing.

This role is key in determining project feasibility and profitability. Your insights will guide management in pricing decisions and bid approvals, especially for public sector and private industrial clients.


3. Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet specific educational, technical, and interpersonal requirements.

Educational Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.
  • Advanced training or certifications in estimation tools, AutoCAD, or project bidding are considered a plus.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of estimation, ideally within a switchgear manufacturing or electrical services company.
  • Experience handling MV/LV switchgear, bus ducts, or cable tray systems will provide an advantage.
  • Proven track record of developing cost proposals for government or private sector tenders is highly desirable.

Technical Competencies:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including functions, formulas, and templates for estimation.
  • Experience using AutoCAD for reviewing and interpreting technical drawings.
  • Understanding of electrical systems including power distribution panels, control panels, and load centers.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, standards (like IEC), and symbols used in system layouts and technical BOQs.
  • Ability to manage large datasets and organize estimation documents for future referencing.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with internal teams, vendors, and clients.
  • Detail-oriented with strong numerical and analytical skills.
  • Capable of handling multiple estimation projects at a time and prioritizing deadlines.
  • Effective in both independent roles and team-based environments.
