Job Description
The Field Engineer – NextGen Graduate Program at Weatherford is a full-time, immersive training and development initiative designed for early-career engineering graduates who are passionate about field operations and ready to take on challenging roles in the energy sector. Participants will be placed within specialized product lines, including drilling, completions, wireline services, artificial lift, well services, and managed pressure drilling, depending on their skills and interest areas.
As a Field Engineer, your primary role will be to assist and eventually lead the planning, execution, and analysis of engineering operations in the field. You will be exposed to high-risk environments and must learn to adapt rapidly while upholding the highest safety and compliance standards. The job will involve travel to onshore and offshore sites across Pakistan, where engineers support client operations, deploy Weatherford’s equipment, and ensure the quality and accuracy of installation and commissioning.
Key responsibilities will include supporting the deployment of mechanical and electrical equipment, assisting in drilling and completions operations, troubleshooting technical issues, maintaining tools and systems, coordinating logistics and field documentation, and maintaining close communication with field supervisors and operations managers. You will also work with senior field engineers to develop real-time solutions during complex well servicing or installation projects.
The program structure includes classroom training, hands-on equipment handling, field assignments, and performance-based evaluations. Trainees will be mentored by experienced engineers and team leaders, with access to the company’s global knowledge base and digital learning platforms. Engineers will also participate in safety training, certification workshops, and simulation labs to develop a holistic understanding of the oilfield ecosystem.
During the first six months, you will shadow experienced field engineers, participate in client briefings, assist in preparing site assessments and load-outs, and become familiar with Weatherford’s operating procedures and compliance requirements. In the following months, you will be assigned responsibilities that involve executing standalone operations under supervision, coordinating material movements, ensuring environmental and safety protocol adherence, and preparing technical reports.
The field engineer role is a foundation-level position but forms the core of Weatherford’s technical hierarchy. Successful trainees will be placed into permanent engineering roles after the program, with growth pathways leading to senior field engineer, operations supervisor, or project engineer roles. Further career growth is possible into engineering management, technical sales, or global mobility roles, depending on performance and aspirations.
This job requires resilience, a high tolerance for pressure, adaptability in unpredictable environments, and a solid foundation in engineering fundamentals. You will work under varying weather conditions, remote field locations, and rotating shift patterns. The job is not a conventional desk role but rather a high-impact, technical opportunity that enables real-time learning, leadership grooming, and frontline energy experience.
Engineers in this role will be evaluated on their technical knowledge, teamwork, communication, safety practices, and problem-solving skills. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, curious, proactive, and able to remain calm under pressure. Strong documentation, planning, and verbal reporting skills are essential, along with a desire to build a long-term career in field operations.
By joining the NextGen Graduate Program, you will step into a structured, world-class training environment that prioritizes your learning, skill development, and overall career trajectory. This program is ideal for recent engineering graduates looking to explore the real-world applications of their academic training while contributing to Pakistan’s vital energy sector.
Eligibility Criteria
The NextGen Graduate Program by Weatherford is open to candidates who have completed their undergraduate or postgraduate studies within the last 24 months. Applicants must possess a strong academic background, high levels of motivation, and a clear interest in field-based engineering roles within the oil and gas industry.

- Have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Be ready to work in physically demanding, fast-paced environments
- Be able to adapt to shift-based field schedules, including night shifts or rotational shifts
- Be motivated to learn and grow within a dynamic, global organization
Additional qualifications that may improve your chances of selection include:
- PEC (Pakistan Engineering Council) registration
- Safety certifications such as HSE Level I/II (if available)
- Prior exposure to CAD tools, instrumentation, or well servicing equipment
- Participation in engineering competitions or capstone projects related to drilling, energy, or manufacturing
- Willingness to work offshore or in desert/remote field camps
Candidates from all regions of Pakistan are encouraged to apply. Weatherford promotes inclusion, equal opportunity, and merit-based hiring. Female engineering graduates, candidates from underrepresented communities, and those willing to relocate to field sites are highly encouraged to apply.
All selected candidates will undergo interviews, assessments, and background checks. The selection process includes a written test, a behavioral interview, and a technical interview with a field operations panel. Candidates who perform well in these stages will be invited to join the program with a competitive starting salary, field allowances, and full training support.
The ideal candidate is someone who thrives in outdoor environments, can manage uncertainty, and has a deep interest in energy systems and technology. This program is not for those seeking a desk-bound job. Instead, it’s for those who want to work at the edge of energy innovation, where every day brings new technical challenges and learning opportunities.
