Job Description
The Instrument Engineer will be part of the Instrumentation Maintenance Department within the Production Division of an EPCM client engaged in power generation and water desalination projects in Qatar and abroad. The role requires hands-on technical expertise in maintaining, calibrating, and troubleshooting instrumentation systems across complex industrial environments.
The engineer will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and performance of instrumentation used in monitoring and controlling processes within large combined cycle power plants operated by oil and natural gas.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Supervising and performing regular maintenance, inspection, and calibration of field instruments, including transmitters, control valves, and analyzers.
- Designing and implementing instrumentation layouts and ensuring integration with DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
- Managing control systems associated with turbines, boilers, and desalination plant equipment.
- Interpreting P&IDs, loop diagrams, and control schematics for troubleshooting and performance optimization.
- Ensuring all instrumentation equipment meets safety and performance standards as per international regulations.
- Collaborating with electrical and mechanical teams to diagnose system faults and implement preventive solutions.
- Monitoring and testing system performance, ensuring that all sensors, actuators, and controllers function properly.
- Preparing documentation, including maintenance records, calibration certificates, and fault analysis reports.
- Supervising subcontractors or technicians during shutdowns and startup activities.
- Identifying areas for process improvement and assisting in control system upgrades.
The position also involves active participation in commissioning, testing, and operational handovers for new installations or plant expansions. The engineer must coordinate with the project management and client teams to ensure the timely completion of all assigned tasks.
Given the technical nature of power and desalination plants, the role demands precision, discipline, and compliance with strict safety procedures. The selected candidate will work a standard Sunday to Thursday schedule, for 8 hours per day, based in Doha, Qatar.
The job also provides opportunities for travel and assignment to international project sites, depending on operational requirements.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 8 years of professional experience as an Instrument Engineer.
- Proven experience in power generation plants, specifically large combined cycle power plants operated by oil and natural gas.
- Strong background in instrumentation maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of industrial systems.
- Experience in working with control systems, analyzers, and field instrumentation.
- GCC experience is mandatory (experience in any Gulf country except Qatar).
- Candidates who have previously worked in Qatar or with Qatar-based companies will not be considered.
- Excellent knowledge of industrial safety standards, maintenance procedures, and international engineering codes.
- Strong ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including P&IDs, logic diagrams, and loop sheets.
- Proficiency in English communication — both written and verbal.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to supervise maintenance teams.
- Problem-solving aptitude and attention to detail in handling process control equipment.
Preferred Nationalities:
Applicants from Pakistan, India, Jordan, Sudan, Turkey, and the Philippines who are currently residing within the GCC region will be preferred.
The ideal candidate should be technically sound, reliable, and capable of working independently within a multidisciplinary team. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and an unwavering commitment to operational excellence.
