Job Offering Company Introduction
UPCO Pakistan is an established industrial organization operating in one of the most vital manufacturing zones of Karachi. With a strong footprint in the Korangi Creek Industrial Park, the company has built its reputation on consistent production performance, dependable operations, and a commitment to quality. Over the years, UPCO has invested heavily in modern machinery, technological upgrades, and operational excellence to ensure that its production units run smoothly while meeting industry demands. The organization continues to expand its capabilities through strategic planning, structured maintenance practices, and the integration of new mechanical and utility systems that support both current and future operational needs.
As industries continue to evolve, the role of mechanical systems in maintaining uninterrupted production has become increasingly important. UPCO understands that machines are the backbone of its operations. Every unit, whether it belongs to production, utilities, packaging, or quality control, relies on the efficiency and reliability of mechanical systems. This includes HVAC setups, compressed air systems, boilers, pumps, chillers, heat exchangers, water treatment systems, and other utility lines that support the manufacturing environment. These systems must operate at peak performance at all times to ensure round-the-clock productivity, energy efficiency, and long-term equipment health.
The company’s maintenance philosophy revolves around a combination of preventive, corrective, and predictive approaches. Preventive maintenance is planned at regular intervals to keep equipment functioning before failure occurs. Corrective maintenance is executed when a fault develops, requiring immediate technical attention to restore operations. Predictive maintenance, supported by condition monitoring, allows the organization to anticipate failures before they happen by observing vibration levels, temperature changes, lubrication conditions, and other machine parameters. This structured combination of approaches reduces downtime, enhances asset reliability, and improves workplace safety.
UPCO’s operations are led by a dedicated technical workforce that understands the importance of equipment availability. The company recognizes that even a minor delay in repair or a small disruption in utilities can impact production timelines, customer commitments, and operational efficiency. To counter these challenges, the organization follows a strict maintenance schedule supported by trained engineers, technical supervisors, maintenance staff, external vendors, and certified OEM service providers. The mechanical team plays an instrumental role in ensuring that utilities and production assets continue to operate smoothly.
With industrial expansion and the continuous addition of new machinery, the need for strong leadership in mechanical maintenance has grown significantly. Therefore, UPCO is seeking an experienced Manager Mechanical who can lead the department with technical clarity, operational discipline, and a long-term vision. The company values engineers who can not only troubleshoot issues and resolve breakdowns but also build a maintenance culture rooted in SOPs, planning, teamwork, continuous training, and vendor coordination.
The role also holds strategic importance because the Manager Mechanical directly interacts with procurement teams, safety departments, vendors, and top management. Every maintenance decision, whether related to spare parts procurement, inventory control, asset replacement, or maintenance budgeting, must be thoughtfully executed. The company believes in empowering its managers with the authority to approve requests, streamline maintenance activities, evaluate vendors, and introduce modern techniques that enhance equipment life cycle and reduce costs.
UPCO has fostered a workplace culture where experienced professionals can contribute ideas, develop their teams, and push for improvement. The organization encourages open communication between engineering, operations, and management. Every suggestion that enhances safety, improves performance, or minimizes risk is welcomed. The company’s environment supports structured planning, long-term thinking, and a disciplined approach to equipment management. The selected Manager Mechanical will play an important role in supporting this culture of excellence.
In addition to technical responsibilities, UPCO places strong importance on people management. Teams grow when leaders guide them, mentor them, and help them understand the importance of disciplined maintenance work. The company wants a manager who can lead with clarity, delegate tasks efficiently, and ensure accountability within the maintenance department. UPCO values an engineer who understands the importance of both technical and human aspects of operations, ensuring that the mechanical department remains stable, efficient, and aligned with the organization’s long-term goals.
Through this role, UPCO aims to strengthen its maintenance capabilities and prepare for future expansion. The company continues to invest in equipment upgrades, modern utility systems, energy-efficient solutions, and condition monitoring technologies. The Manager Mechanical will contribute to shaping these initiatives and ensuring that the organization’s mechanical infrastructure remains reliable, safe, and capable of supporting production demands for years to come.
Job Description
The Manager Mechanical plays a central role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and smooth functioning of all mechanical and utility systems within the facility. This is a leadership position that requires a balanced approach to planning, execution, supervision, and strategic decision-making. The manager is expected to maintain an uninterrupted flow of production by ensuring that every mechanical asset, utility line, and system is kept in optimal working condition.
The role starts with leading all types of mechanical maintenance activities. This includes preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and condition-based monitoring. Preventive maintenance activities must be planned and executed as per the guidelines provided by equipment manufacturers. The manager will oversee maintenance schedules, track their completion, and ensure that technicians follow the required procedures. Corrective maintenance must be handled with urgency, focusing on minimizing downtime and restoring operations safely and efficiently. The manager must also integrate condition-based maintenance into the system through vibration analysis, lubrication checks, temperature monitoring, and equipment inspection reports.
The Manager Mechanical will be responsible for the smooth operation of all utility systems, including HVAC units, air compressors, thermal systems, boilers, pumps, water distribution systems, and chilled-water lines. Utilities form the backbone of production, and any interruption can cause widespread delays. The manager will monitor the health of all these systems, analyze their performance, and ensure their continuous availability. Routine inspections, proper documentation, and timely reporting will be essential.
Procurement planning and inventory management are critical responsibilities of this role. Mechanical systems rely heavily on the availability of critical spare parts. Delays in spare procurement can prolong breakdowns and disrupt operations. The manager must maintain updated inventory records, identify critical items, work with procurement teams for timely sourcing, and approve purchase requisitions. The manager must also evaluate vendor performance, negotiate terms when required, and approve deliveries after ensuring compliance with specifications.
Another core function of the job involves developing and enforcing SOPs for all departmental operations. These SOPs will standardize maintenance practices, reduce variations in task execution, and create a structured workflow. SOPs also ensure safety compliance, procedural accuracy, and consistent documentation. The manager will ensure that all employees understand and follow these procedures.
The manager will implement long-term preventive and predictive maintenance plans to ensure maximum equipment reliability. These plans must be built around industry standards, OEM guidelines, and internal performance data. Predictive maintenance will allow the organization to detect issues before they lead to failures, making equipment performance more stable and reducing repair costs. The manager will also ensure that maintenance data is collected, analyzed, and used for decision-making.
Vendor coordination is another important aspect of this role. Many services, such as specialized repairs, calibration, equipment upgrades, and complex maintenance tasks, are outsourced to certified service providers. The manager will liaise with these vendors, ensure timely execution of tasks, verify service quality, and manage compliance with contractual obligations. Ensuring that the facility has round-the-clock machine and utility availability will depend heavily on effective vendor coordination.
Leadership is central to this role. The manager must guide, mentor, and supervise the maintenance team. This includes assigning responsibilities, monitoring performance, providing training, and ensuring adherence to standards. The manager will encourage team discipline, technical skill development, and a responsible attitude toward maintenance work. Creating a culture where technicians understand the importance of equipment health and preventive action will be critical.
The role also includes providing strategic input to top management. The manager will recommend equipment upgrades, performance improvements, lifecycle replacements, and process optimizations. These recommendations will help the organization improve long-term efficiency, reduce operational risks, and maintain competitiveness.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must hold a BE degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution. A strong academic foundation in mechanical systems, thermodynamics, maintenance engineering, and utility operations will be necessary to handle the technical responsibilities of this role.
