Job Description
The Mechanical Draftsman role at AngularSpring is integral to the design engineering team and bridges the creative aspects of engineering with its practical execution. The primary responsibilities involve converting conceptual 3D models into accurate 2D technical drawings suitable for manufacturing, machining, and quality assurance processes. This drafting work forms the blueprint of everything the company produces and must be created with precision, clarity, and full alignment with design standards.
The core responsibility includes working with both SolidWorks and AutoCAD to generate 2D mechanical drawings from finalized 3D models. These drawings are used by the production and quality teams to manufacture components, perform quality checks, and ensure the end product aligns with the engineering intent.
Collaboration is a key part of the role. The mechanical draftsman will work closely with design engineers, machinists, production managers, and sometimes even clients, depending on the project. The draftsman ensures all views, dimensions, tolerances, materials, and fabrication details are accurately reflected in the drawings. Every line drawn has a purpose — to guide someone down the production line who’s building, measuring, or inspecting that component.
Another important aspect is maintaining version control and drawing documentation. This includes tracking drawing revisions, preparing drawing registers, maintaining standardized file naming conventions, and coordinating updates with the production team. As production begins, any design modifications must be reflected back in the drawing database quickly and clearly.
This role also supports the machining and manufacturing process by creating exploded assembly drawings, section views, Bill of Materials (BOMs), and part identification lists. These are vital for assembly teams and quality inspectors who rely on visual data to ensure conformity and accuracy during builds.
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Understand 3D modeling principles and how they translate to 2D.
- Handle dimensioning techniques, tolerances, and symbols per ISO/ASME drafting standards.
- Optimize drawings for CNC compatibility where required.
- Generate fabrication and machining-ready drawings for sheet metal, machined parts, castings, or welded assemblies.
- Communicate clearly with design engineers and production teams to resolve design issues.
The work is not limited to mechanical components. Projects may range from small jigs and fixtures to complete product housing designs and production layouts. Adaptability and the willingness to take on diverse drafting tasks is a valued trait in this role.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the position of Mechanical Draftsman at AngularSpring, candidates must meet a clear set of qualifications that demonstrate both technical competency and professional readiness. The company places a strong emphasis on foundational mechanical knowledge, software proficiency, and a keen eye for detail.
Candidates should have completed a Diploma of Associate Engineering (DAE) in Mechanical Engineering or hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Both academic paths are acceptable provided the candidate has practical drafting experience or demonstrable CAD skills.
Fresh graduates or individuals with up to 1-2 years of experience in a mechanical design, manufacturing, or CAD-based role are encouraged to apply. Those with significant project exposure during their studies or internships will also be considered positively.
The ideal candidate must possess:
- Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks, including sketching, part modeling, assemblies, and drawings.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, particularly in generating detailed 2D mechanical drawings.
- Ability to understand and interpret complex 3D assemblies and convert them into precise 2D documentation.
- Understanding of mechanical standards, dimensioning rules, and tolerancing symbols.
- Familiarity with BOMs, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and production-level drawing standards.
Candidates must also demonstrate:
- Attention to detail and accuracy, as their work directly affects production quality.
- Communication skills to interact with engineers and factory teams.
- The ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple drawing assignments.
- A proactive attitude toward learning new drafting standards or tools.
- Willingness to adapt to different types of engineering projects.
Knowledge of sheet metal design, fabrication drawings, and assembly documentation will be considered a strong plus. Candidates who have previously worked in a tool room, fabrication shop, or engineering services environment will have an advantage.
Familiarity with quality control processes, ISO standards, and CNC-related drafting will also enhance a candidate’s profile, although these are not mandatory.
In addition, AngularSpring is looking for individuals who are team players, problem solvers, and eager to grow within the company. Their projects often require a flexible mindset, the ability to shift gears between simple and complex tasks, and a commitment to long-term quality improvement.
Fresh engineers or DAE holders with a passion for design and precision are highly encouraged to apply, even if they lack direct industrial experience, as long as they can demonstrate skill, motivation, and a portfolio of academic or freelance work.
Location
The position of Mechanical Draftsman is based in Pakistan. Candidates may be required to collaborate with on-site teams in local manufacturing units depending on the project scope.
