Now, Hill International is seeking to hire an experienced MEP Manager for a full-time opportunity in Madrid, Spain. This role is key to ensuring that MEP systems in complex construction projects are designed, coordinated, and implemented to the highest standards.


2. Job Description

Position Title: MEP Manager
Location: Madrid, Spain
Industry: Construction & Project Management
Employment Type: Full-time

As the MEP Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in assigned projects, from early design coordination through installation and commissioning. This position plays a strategic role in ensuring that MEP designs meet project objectives and international standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the full MEP scope across multiple construction stages, including planning, design review, coordination, procurement, and execution
  • Liaise between engineering consultants, general contractors, subcontractors, and clients to ensure MEP systems meet project requirements
  • Review and approve MEP shop drawings, material submittals, and method statements
  • Ensure that all MEP designs are compliant with local regulations, sustainability guidelines, and energy efficiency standards
  • Monitor the progress of MEP works and verify that installation is carried out per the approved plans and specifications
  • Proactively resolve technical and design issues with consultants and subcontractors
  • Assist in preparing project budgets and managing cost control related to MEP installations
  • Support procurement teams with technical evaluations of MEP equipment and vendor submissions
  • Coordinate commissioning plans and witness system start-ups and performance testing
  • Report regularly to the Project Director and provide technical insight on project updates, risks, and milestones

This is a leadership role that demands not only technical knowledge, but also strong organizational, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. You will be working with local and international stakeholders in a multilingual, multicultural environment.


3. Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the role of MEP Manager in Madrid, applicants must meet the following requirements:


Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a closely related field
  • A master’s degree or professional certifications in MEP systems (e.g., LEED AP, PMP, Chartered Engineer) will be an added advantage

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in MEP design, supervision, or construction management
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing MEP systems in large-scale commercial, institutional, or mixed-use projects
  • Proven experience working with international design codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC, CIBSE)
  • Prior experience in Spain or European markets is highly desirable
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team in a consultancy or client-representative capacity

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, Navisworks, and BIM coordination tools
  • Solid understanding of HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution, fire protection, and energy management systems
  • Knowledge of local Spanish building codes and environmental compliance
  • Ability to prepare and interpret technical reports, schedules, and specifications

Soft Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Spanish is a significant advantage
  • Effective leadership, team management, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented, with strong documentation and coordination habits

4. Location

This position is based in Madrid, Spain, with occasional travel to project sites across the region. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in Spain or the European Union.
